Joseph’s Chateau was named after the director’s father who was a World War II Navy veteran who died with Alzheimer’s. She has also cared for a World War II Air Force veteran, two VA vets that served in the Vietnam era, and her husband who in addition to advanced prostate and bone cancer also had mild Alzheimer’s and whom she took sole care of right up to his crossing over into heaven. From these life experiences, the director converted her personal home into a Foster Care HOME for men only.
This Veterans Administration Medical Foster Home Care home has been operating since the summer of 2011 in Minnesota and just recently moved to Sioux Falls. The staff members have combined experience in senior care of over 30 years.
The unique and special features about Joseph’s Chateau are the private bedrooms with Roku TV and a limit on the number of residents, in order to keep a home environment. Most of the men are mobile or have some sort of medical equipment and are able to maneuver the stairs (or use a stair lift).
